Liberty Baptist Church was founded in November, 1922. The church was started as a result of a brush arbor meeting. Founding Pastor W.E. Anderson called Evangelist Robert Self to preach for the outdoor services which resulted in the establishment of the church.
LBC has a tremendous heritage. Through the years the people of Liberty have always risen to the meet the needs of the church. Many special conferences and revival meetings have been held on our campus. Among the great preachers to preach from our pulpit include Dr. John R. Rice, Dr. Hyman Appleman, Dr. Bob Jones, Sr., Dr. Jack Hyles, Dr. B.R. Lakin, and Dr. Lee Roberson.
From our humble beginning to the present, LBC has been recognized for its firm stand on God’s Word. Liberty maintains one of America’s oldest bus ministries, beginning in 1953. The bus ministry is a vital ministry used to reach hundreds of people with the gospel every year. In addition to the bus ministry, LBC supports several missionaries around the world. New Testament Church Missions is based out of LBC and is the headquarters of nearly 200 national pastors from the country of India.
Our children and youth ministry at LBC is second to none. Our church families benefit from these ministries each service. Our youth ministry is a vital part of our soul-winning outreach in our church. Each week, many people are presented the gospel by our teenagers and workers.
Liberty Christian School was founded in 1973 and is the oldest and most experienced Christian school in Durham. Known for its strong Christian stand and high academic standards, LCS is recognized as a leader in Christian education in our area.
